SCOTTISH Premiership side Hibernian have reportedly “revived their interest” in Swindon Town striker Harry McKirdy, according to The Sun’s football journalist Alan Nixon.

Edinburgh-based Hibs were said to be after the 25-year-old back in April, with Nixon claiming McKirdy was “a key transfer target” for the Easter-Road club over the summer.

But after a long period of silence from Scotland, it appears as though Lee Johnson’s men have decided to make a late swoop for Town’s talisman with a little over a week of the summer window remaining.

The deal may be hinged on whether Hibs can finalise a deal with Forest Green Rovers for the return of striker Christian Doidge, however.

The 29-year-old has spent three seasons in East Scotland but is thought to be keen on a return to Gloucestershire with League One Rovers.

Should that deal go through sooner rather than later, Hibs will likely attempt to force a move for McKirdy through prior to the 11pm deadline on Thursday, September 1.

McKirdy has a contract at the County Ground until the summer of 2023, therefore Town do not have much longer to decide on whether they would be prepared to sell their eccentric forward.

The 25-year-old has scored 25 goals and provided 10 assists in 49 appearances for Town since arriving at the club following a successful trial in 2021.

It is understood that Swindon are yet to receive a formal offer from any club for McKirdy’s services, including previously-linked Charlton Athletic.

Addicks head coach Ben Garner described a move for McKirdy as “a non-starter” when approached by The South London Press about the subject recently.

Garner has already poached several former Town assets since leaving for The Valley earlier in the summer, including coach Scott Marshall, and players; Jojo Wollacott, Mandela Egbo, and Jack Payne.

But the Charlton boss has ruled out McKirdy as a viable option to follow in their footsteps.

Garner said: “Harry is a player who I admire a lot. He had a fantastic season last year.

“In my opinion, he is certainly good enough for League One and he would be really good in our squad.

“But he is a contracted player at Swindon, and I don’t have a transfer fee available to go and bid for him.

“At the moment that would be a non-starter for us.”
