SWINDON Town striker Harry McKirdy has been handed a three-match suspension and a £1,500 fine as a consequence of his behaviour after being sent off against Salford City earlier this month.

McKirdy was sent off by referee Andy Woolmer for two yellow cards in the first half of the 0-0 draw on Saturday, August 6, leading to an outburst from the forward in the tunnel and changing-room area.

The 25-year-old is said to have thrown a protein shake at a wall in the officials’ changing room which burst and then covered the referee's change of clothes.

McKirdy was officially charged on Tuesday, and his penalty was announced 24 hours later.

In a statement from the Football Association announcing the punishment, it said McKirdy admitted that his behaviour - after being sent off in the 43rd minute - was "aggressive and improper."

The governing body continued: "An independent regulatory commission imposed (McKirdy's) sanctions during a subsequent hearing, and the written reasons for its decisions will be published in due course."

McKirdy is now set to miss Swindon's next three fixtures; away at Stockport County and Gillingham in League Two, either side of the EFL Trophy contest against Crystal Palace Under-21s next Tuesday.

Town had previously told the Swindon Advertiser that they would be conducting their own investigation into the incident.

After the FA found McKirdy guilty of "aggressive and improper" behaviour, it is currently unclear whether there will be any further punishment from the football club.

McKirdy's latest FA breach comes at a time when the 25-year-old's future at the County Ground is uncertain.

Scottish Premiership side Hibernian are said to have "revived their interest" in the forward and may look to make a late dash to bring McKirdy to Easter Road before next Thursday's (September 1) summer transfer deadline.

McKirdy has a contract at the County Ground until next summer, and his value will decrease significantly in January, therefore Town do not have much longer to decide on whether to sell the eccentric forward for the highest-possible price.

The 25-year-old has scored 25 goals and provided 10 assists in 49 appearances for Town since arriving at the club following a successful trial in 2021.

It is understood that Swindon are yet to receive a formal offer from any club for McKirdy’s services, including previously-linked Charlton Athletic.
