CHARLIE Nesbitt secured his first win in the Pirelli National Superstock series with a stunning performance at Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire.

The Swindon youngster built on his impressive recent run by producing a standout ride in front of a huge crowd at the twisty 2.2-mile circuit over the bank holiday weekend.

Starting from third place on board his VisionTrack Suzuki, Nesbitt immediately moved up to second with an excellent launch off the grid, leaving him to battle for the lead with Davey Todd on the Milenco by Padgetts Honda.

Todd managed to stay ahead for seven laps despite indications that Nesbitt had superior pace overall, particularly through the tighter sections of the track. That proved to be the case when he made the decisive pass on lap eight, as Nesbitt then posted the fastest lap and began to stretch out a lead.

With a new lap record underlining his dominance, Nesbitt went on to take the win by a 2.7 second margin from Todd in second place. Experienced Australian rider Billy McConnell, who leads the championship, came home third.

Speaking afterwards, Nesbitt said: “I absolutely loved that race, it means everything. The team have been working so hard with me, getting me up to pace and being patient. They’ve been fantastic. I just can’t wait for the rest of the season now.”

After a disappointing start to the campaign, the 2021 British GP2 champion appears to have now got to grips with the challenges of the more powerful National Superstock machinery.

The victory capped a fine month for the rider, who made his mark in the double header round at Thruxton with two third-place finishes.

His weekend at Cadwell Park also included a successful first appearance in an official test for the premier British Superbike class, hinting at a possible promotion to the high profile series next year.
