SWINDON Supermarine progressed to the second round of FA Cup qualifying on Wednesday night following a 1-0 win over Willand Rovers in their first qualifying round replay at the Webbswood Stadium.

A 18th-minute Harry Williams goal was enough to seal the win for the Spitfires, who will now face Southern Premier South rivals Dorchester Town at home for a place in the third round of qualifying on Saturday, September 17.

A replay was required after last Saturday’s tie ended in a 1-1 draw, thanks to a stunning Leon Morrison equaliser for Marine.

Supermarine scored the only goal of Wednesday’s game after Zack Kotwica struck the bar with a header, only for Williams to follow it in.

Willand had the ball in the net early on, but the offside flag was up to deny Lewis Hill an early goal.

The hosts then took the lead through Williams, in one of just a few chances of the first half.

Supermarine then poked over ten minutes into the second-half through Williams, before clearing an effort off the line five minutes later, as the visitors pushed for an equaliser.

Bookings for multiple players on both sides then followed in the half, with clear-cut chances being few and far between.

Williams saw his shot deflected wide six minutes after the hour mark, before Ty Duffus, who was brought on for George Dowling, sent a free-kick high and wide over the bar minutes later.

Kotwica then found the side netting with four minutes remaining, before substitute James Harding’s late effort to double Marine’s lead went straight down goalkeeper George Burton’s throat.

Nevertheless, Lee Spalding’s men had done enough to book their spot in the next round, and the Webbswood Stadium outfit can now focus on a trip to Plymouth Parkway in the Southern League Premier South on Saturday.
