SWINDON Town head coach Scott Lindsey has clarified the club’s position in regard to a potential permanent deal for striker Luke Jephcott.

Town signed Jephcott on a season-long loan late on deadline day but stated they had the option to bring the 22-year-old in permanently should they want to.

But earlier this week, Plymouth Argyle director of football Neil Dewsnip stated the Pilgrims still see Jephcott as part of their plans and suggested the striker could be called back in January to play for the Green Army once again.

With confusion rife among supporters of both clubs, Town’s head coach explained the situation from his club’s point of view.

Lindsey said: “So we’ve taken Luke on loan with a view to making it a permanent deal.

“In effect, the deal has been negotiated already. If he goes on and scores a hatful, they (Plymouth) can’t renege on the deal if we want to take it up.

“Essentially, if we want to do it, we push the button and do it because the fee is agreed – that’s pretty much what the deal entails.”

Despite the comments from Dewsnip, Argyle are unlikely to re-call Jephcott anyway as the deal has already been agreed.

Town can – and more than likely will – press ahead with bringing Jephcott to the County Ground in the first week of January.

Should the Welsh striker want to sign for Swindon, he will need to agree personal terms before signing a contract to complete his move.
