SWINDON Town Women manager James Lally hopes his side has “made a case” for more double-headers at the County Ground following a 10-0 demolition of Paulton Rovers Ladies in the Women’s FA Cup third qualifying round on Saturday.

Following the men’s narrow success over Hartlepool United in League Two, over 700 people watched Lally’s team net five goals either side of half-time to book their spot in the first round proper.

Annie Colston scored four goals on a memorable night for all concerned, while Megan Attenborough bagged a brace, and Tori Taylor, Gipsy Viveash, Helena Diaz-Butcher, and Kat Bach also netted.

MATCH REPORT: Women complete winning double for Swindon Town by booking FA Cup first-round spot.

Post-match, Lally was proud of his players for a totally professional performance and hopes the fans who watched were more than satisfied by their team’s output.

The Town boss was also hopeful owner Clem Morfuni and his board will make the back-to-back games a more regular occurrence.

Lally said: “I hope people know now they can come and watch a women’s side in Swindon play some really good football at a good level.

“And also that there are opportunities to watch and maybe take part too. We just need their support, and then we can make a case for having more double-headers here.

“A good crowd stayed behind. It comfortably smashes our previous record of around 300.

“Hopefully they saw something that they liked. We’ve got a league game on Thursday night in Fairford if people want to come and support us again.”

Diaz-Butcher was deservedly named player of the match against Paulton for her four assists and a goal, but four-goal hero Annie Colston played no small part in one of the football club’s largest ever margins of victory.

The former Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton and Hove Albion forward revealed after the game she was petrified her debut in a professional football stadium would end in disaster, rather than the euphoria it actually contained.

Colston said: “This is the first stadium I’ve ever played at – I’ve never played at an actual football league ground before, so it was quite a big thing for me. It was amazing to do it at Swindon, I absolutely loved it.

“I was saying to the girls before, I’m not going to score today. I know I’ll just get out there and I’ll freeze or I’ll sky all my shots.

“But just to get the first goal in so early and to hear the crowd, it was amazing. I thought to myself: “yeah, I want to get a couple more!” and thankfully I managed it.”
