SWINDON School of Gymnastics claimed three top-four finishes at the West Country League Championships in Melksham, including a gold medal and league title for the senior girls.

The artistic gymnastics competition is made up of three matches throughout the year, and the Wiltshire edition confirmed each team’s overall finishing position.

Up against teams from Wiltshire, Bath, and Frome, the experienced C League senior competitors were desperate to give their best with only the top three scores on each piece of apparatus counting towards the overall team score.

Shannon set the perfect tone with an impressive vault which garnered the highest score of the whole day. Daisy followed her teammate on bars by earning a huge mark – good enough for second place – while clubmate Talia took fourth after producing a clean routine.

Another unbeatable score arrived from Demi following a superb effort on the beam. Lowri backed her up with a second place on the same apparatus, and Jess contributed with a steady performance as well.

SSG’s senior side claimed gold in the team competition and were also crowned overall C League winners to cap a brilliant day for the club.

Coach Lauren said: “Just watching their faces when they collected their medals and the cup on the rostrum really does make their hard working during training all worthwhile.”

Elsewhere, the B League squad – whose top four scores on each piece of apparatus counted towards the team tally – saw Hetty produce the best vault showing and Anne complete an excellent bar routine.

Millie’s beam effort scooped the highest mark of the morning, and the judges gave Lexie the team’s highest mark for her floor routine, while Mollie was consistent throughout the competition.

The youngest crop of SSG’s artistic gymnasts – girls between seven and eight years old – were brilliant on the day and took home third place.

Sophie nailed her vault performance, Erin went clean on the asymmetric bars, Pheobie showed no nerves on the beam, Storm achieved an impressive mark for her floor routine, Eloisa was consistent and happy gaining experience throughout the competition, and Adelyn competed a new dismount off of the beam to complete a wonderful day for the club.
