SWINDON Town fans are split over club legend Paul Caddis reportedly being on the shortlist to become the Robins' new head coach.

Swindon remain in the process of looking for Scott Lindsey's replacement after the 50-year-old left Wiltshire to become Crawley Town's new manager last week.

Several names are said to be in the frame to take over at SN1, with Steve Morison recently joining double League-Two winner Caddis in the field of Kieron Dyer, David Artell, and Marc Bircham.

On Sunday, football reporter Chris Wise broke news of Swindon's alleged interest in 34-year-old Caddis.

Wise said: "Understand Paul Caddis is in the frame to be the next Swindon Town manager.

"He’s held two interviews with the club in the past week. With Charlie Austin back, it could be some month for returning heroes at the County Ground."

The Scot does not have any first-team coaching experience under his belt but has been an academy coach at Fleetwood Town since hanging up his boots for good in 2022.

Caddis has been working flat-out to achieve all of his coaching badges and has previously expressed a strong interest in taking the top job at the County Ground.

But in reply to Wise's initial post, Town fans were torn between wanting the club to appoint Caddis immediately and hoping the former defender would be given his chance further down the line or as part of the next person's coaching staff.

M T Holmes said: "No thanks, he’s a million miles away from being ready to manage #stfc and wouldn’t be in the frame if he wasn’t an ex player.

"Need to quit with the sentimental nonsense and make appointments based on merit."

JoeSTFC agreed. He said: "As much as I love Caddis, we need a good manager first and foremost over someone who was a good player, loved the club and the club loves him.

"I would much rather wait a few years where we could be confident he could come in and do a good job with more experience and knowledge."

Joe Vincent and Dan Adams were firmly in the 'yes' camp. They said: "Would love this" and "Yes from me," respectively.

Nathi said: "Caddis' mentality as a player, his time as captain, time playing under Di Canio-style tactics. There is a lot that makes me happy about this, even if it is a risk."

Pauly remained on the fence over the possibility of the Scot arriving. He said: "Mixed feelings about this one.

"Part of me says no as he has no experience, but historically we’ve had success with managers having us as their first job. [Lou] Macari, Ossie [Ardiles], [Glenn] Hoddle, [Steve] McMahon, and Paolo [Di Canio]. Who knows, it’s always a gamble whoever we choose."

Justin was against Caddis coming in at this stage of his coaching career. He said: "Too soon mate. He’s Mr right but not right now. Thing is, I’d be gutted if he failed."
