Former Swindon Town star Harry McKirdy has landed himself in hot water and could face disciplinary action over a deleted Instagram post, his new boss Lee Johnson has revealed.

The 26-year-old, who secured a move to Edinburgh-based side Hibs last summer, has not played in the past three games for the Scottish Premiership side.

After the most recent game he uploaded a picture of an empty park bench captioned ‘Chels, Nina, Golf, Hibs’.

It is believed it refers to his support of Premier League side Chelsea, and Nina refers to his girlfriend.

It appears to be a play on the infamous social media post by Gareth Bale: "Wales. Golf. Real Madrid. In that order."

This is not the first time the forward has posted an unprofessional comment on his social media this season, after he replied “no wrong” on an official Swindon Town post in reply to a fan who said it was “time to come back now”.

Since making the move from Swindon to Hibs, McKirdy has only started five times in a total of 19 appearances.

Hibs boss Johnson said: “What I want is players to respect their team-mates. So yes, conversations have been had and are being had now with Harry.

"Do I think he's a bad lad? Absolutely not. Do I think he is emotive, particularly at those times on a Saturday night? Yes.

"We'll decide what the best course of action with him is, not only for the good of the team but also to support players like that.

“There's a lot of stick that flies about on the back of social media comments like that and these lads are desperate to play, they are desperate to perform and there is a lot of pressure on them.

"There are two sides to it. We have got systems in place to protect our players, but also to reprimand if we feel that is required.”

Johnson was asked if McKirdy can still turn his Hibs career around and his reply was: “I don’t see any reason why he can’t.”
