Middlesbrough are planning to open talks with former Swindon Town goalkeeper Sol Brynn over a new deal, according to reports.

Journalist Pete O'Rourke reported that Michael Carrick's side are prepared to offer the 22-year-old a new contract following his good form on loan in Wiltshire.

Brynn played his season in League Two after signing a one-year loan deal with the Robins last summer, and he proved to be an integral part of the team, helping them to a 10th place finish.

The young goalie was named Swindon Town player of the season in their recent end of season awards. He is entering the final year of his contract at Boro and they are keen to open talks over a new contract to fend off other clubs who are interested in the shotstopper.

Football Insider reports that several clubs have been keeping an eye on his performances for Town this season and monitoring his situation at Middlesbrough.

This season on-loan goalkeeper Zack Steffen has been Boro’s number one, where he kept nine clean sheets in 41 appearances for the club, but with Steffen likely to return to the Manchester City this summer, this opens a door for Brynn to try and earn that top spot.
