SWINDON'S Charlie Nesbitt bagged a hat-trick of top-10 finishes, including his best result to date, in the latest round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship (BSB) at Donington Park in Leicestershire.
Riding the MasterMac Honda by Hawk Racing, the talented youngster caught the eye with a performance that suggests he is quickly adapting to his first full season in the premier domestic racing series.
He made a strong start with a 10th-place finish in the opening BikeSocial Sprint Race on Saturday, just ahead of fellow Swindon rookie Max Cook in 11th on board the Cheshire Mouldings Kawasaki.
But there was more to come in Sunday’s two longer races. The first was incident-packed, concluding with a barn-storming finish set up by an intervention from the safety car, from which Nesbitt emerged with a superb sixth place. Cook crossed the line in 12th, a credible result in its own right among a hugely competitive and experienced field.
Nesbitt completed a full house of top-10 results by closing out the weekend with ninth in the final race. Cook unfortunately failed to finish after a crash on the opening lap, but walked away unhurt.
Speaking afterwards, Nesbitt said: “I’m really enjoying the challenge of riding in Bennetts BSB, and obviously I’m made up to have got three good results over the weekend.
“It feels like we’ve made a big step forward as a team and I’m confident we’ll keep making progress from here.”
The series, which is televised live in the UK and many other countries around the world, heads to Scotland for the next round at Knockhill in June.
