FORMER Swindon Town winger Morgan Roberts has signed for Brackley Town following his release from the County Ground this summer.

Roberts was among a group of seven Swindon players who were not offered another contract by the Robins, although the 22-year-old is the first to land a new club.

The futures of Cian Harries and, in particular, Jonny Williams remain of interest to Town fans with speculation season in full swing.

Roberts will ply his trade in National League North during the 2023-24 campaign, enjoying a return to the club he briefly represented on loan from Northampton Town in 2020.

After coming through the Cobblers' academy, Northampton-born Roberts left for Banbury United in July 2021 and enjoyed a brilliant year with the Puritans prior to being spotted by Swindon.

The winger scored 14 goals in 34 apperances either side of Banbury winning promotion into National League North and was named National League North Player of the Month days before moving to SN1.

At the County Ground, Roberts featured just 10 times in competitive senior matches over the first half of the season without scoring. In February, he joined National League side Aldershot Town until the end of the season before being released in the summer.

At new club, Banbury, manager Gavin Cowan said: “Morgan is a really exciting player who will bring great options for us in numerous positions, and we are over the moon to have him here.

"Fresh out of a year in professional football, he’s ready to hit the ground running and show the fans what he can do!”

Roberts' new teammates include former Swindon strikers, Theo Robinson and Adam Rooney.

Robinson signed for the Saints on March 1 after being released by Hartlepool United while Rooney moved to Northamptonshire in October 2022 and helped Brackley reach the play-offs, where they eventually fell 2-0 to Kidderminster Harriers in the final.
