SWINDON Town are not thought to be interested in bringing striker Harry McKirdy back to the club this summer, Adver Sport understands.

Hibernian are reportedly open to the idea of sending McKirdy out on loan for the 2023/24 campaign after a disappointing first season in Edinburgh for the 26-year-old.

The London-born forward failed to score in 22 appearances for the Hibees, although 17 of those games saw McKirdy sent on from the bench.

There has already been a significant shake-up in Hibs' forward line this summer after they sold Kevin Nisbet to Millwall before signing Elie Youan and former Reading striker, Adam Le Fondre.

According to the Edinburgh Evening News, manager Lee Johnson is hesitant to seek a permanent departure for the player who lit up League Two with Swindon prior to his move to the capital last summer. The hope is that another spell in England’s lower leagues will help rediscover his confidence and scoring touch.

Leyton Orient and Colchester United are said to be in the race to land the man who netted 22 goals in 37 league starts for Town during the 21/22 season.

McKirdy's goalscoring exploits in that campaign led to him being named in the EFL League Two Team of the Season, along with scooping the Swindon Advertiser's Swindon Town Player of the Season award.

Several titles have claimed there is a third English club looking at bringing McKirdy back south of the border, but Adver Sport has been told that Swindon are not one of them.

League One Orient are apparently in pole position to make McKirdy their latest summer addition, less than 12 months after the 26-year-old agreed a three-year contract with Hibs for an undisclosed fee.

McKirdy's penultimate goal for Swindon came against the O's in a 1-1 draw at the County Ground in August 2022.

In total, the enigmatic striker netted 25 times and created 10 other goals during 49 appearances for the Robins.

On Thursday, Town made their first summer signing when goalkeeper Murphy Mahoney signed on a season-long loan deal from Championship side, Queens Park Rangers.

The League Two outfit begin their pre-season fixture list on Wednesday night when they take on Swindon Supermarine at the Webbswood Stadium in a 7:45pm kick-off.
