SWINDON Town made it two wins out of two in pre-season after thrashing non-league side Melksham Town 5-0 on Saturday afternoon.

It was a dominant display from Michael Flynn’s side, who once again named an almost completely different line-up for the first and second half.

Goals from Charlie Austin and Frazer Blake- Tracy gave Town a comfortable lead going into the break, then Tomi Adeloye, Tyrese Shade and Ricky Aguiar added insult to injury in the second period to secure the victory.

Town boss Flynn named arguably his strongest available line-up for the first half, organised in the 3-5-2 formation which was used for their opening pre-season friendly against Swindon Supermarine.

The League Two side started off brightest, who controlled possession in the opening spells and boxed Melksham inside their own half.

It only took nine minutes for Swindon to claim the first chance of the game, when Remeao Hutton neatly played in Austin through on goal, but was flagged for offside by the linesman.

Swindon continued their dominance, just three minutes later Shade did well to find some space inside the box, but his low struck effort was palmed away by the Melksham keeper.

Shade had another chance to break the deadlock in the 20th minute, when a flurry of Town pressure led to the winger in plenty of space to have a shot from close range, but his effort was skied over the bar.

Not long after, yet another Swindon attack threatened the Melksham defence, this time through Jacob Wakeling.

A corner delivery from Jake Cain caused pandemonium inside the six-yard box – it eventually fell to Wakeling at point-blank range, but the forwards attempt was somehow scrambled away from the Melksham defence to keep things all square.

Town eventually opened the scoring inside the half hour mark through their talisman, Austin.

Hutton was able to beat his man on the right wing and deliver an enticing ball towards the back post, which found a darting Austin, who made no mistake heading it past the Melksham keeper.

The away side doubled their advantage just three minutes later, through an excellent strike by Frazer Blake-Tracy.

The defender found himself with nobody around him at the edge of the box following a neat George McEachran lay off, and struck his effort powerfully into the top right corner to make it 2-0.

It was an almost entirely changed line-up for Town in the second half, with plenty of youngsters entering the fray, along with trialists Jordan Moore-Taylor and Lewis Ward.

Swindon extended their lead again just three minutes into the second period, through half time substitute Tomi Adeloye.

The forward got on the end of a low driven cross by fellow substitute Harvey Fox, and calmly tapped it in from close range to make it 3-0.

Flynn’s side didn’t stop their rampage there, as they made it four inside the 55th minute through Shade.

The former Walsall midfielder made no mistake this time after his missed chances in the first period, who latched onto a neat pass from Cain and slotted it away inside the box.

Further damage was dealt to the non-league side in the 69th minute when substitute Ricky Aguiar extended Swindon’s lead to make it a five goal deficit.

The midfielder picked up the ball from 25 yards out and glided his effort past the Melksham keeper and into the top corner to close off an impressive performance from Town.
