Questions have been raised over who exactly owns Swindon Town Football Club - or at least part of it.

Documents released on Companies House in the past few days appear to show that around a fifth of the club was transferred to two other people.

It has prompted anxiety among some fans and the supporters trust, TrustSTFC, to urge the club to provide clarity “in an open and transparent manner as soon as possible”.

Meanwhile, the club have said this was a mistake and a correction would be issued as soon as possible.

The documents, filed on August 15 as part of regular submissions to Companies House for Swinton Reds 20, owned by Clem Morfuni, showed that in September last year, just over 20 per cent of the club was transferred to other people.

In the document known as a confirmation statement, Axis Football Investments LTD, the holding company for STFC, appeared to transfer a total of 2318 shares to two women - Hollie Kiely, who received 1794 shares, and Bethany Parladorio, who received 524 - and retained 8145 shares for itself.

Town chief executive Rob Angus read out a pre-prepared statement at the fans’ forum on August 16, according to the trust, stating it was a “mistake”, but did not take further questions.

Mr Angus said: “We were made aware this morning via Companies House that there was a confirmation statement update on the ownership structure of Axis Football Investments Limited of Swindon Town Football Club.

“It’s something that we became aware of at the same time you did. We have spoken to Clem about it and he believes that the statement has been filed in error.

“He has confirmed to us that he is the 100% owner of the football club and a corrective confirmation statement will be submitted as soon as possible.”

Reacting to the news, a spokesperson for TrustSTFC said: "Along with others in the fan community, TrustSTFC became aware via Companies House notifications of a confirmation statement for the holding company of Swindon Town Football Club, which indicated that shares had been allocated to two individuals.

"In our role to represent the fans, and being individual fans ourselves, we are concerned by the notification submitted to Companies House.

“Clem has repeatedly confirmed to us that he is 100% the owner of the Football Club during his ownership and we are seeking clarification from the club to understand how this error has occurred.

"We are also requesting that the Club provides this clarification in an open and transparent manner, as soon as possible, for all fans to understand what is happening with our football club."

For fans, this news has brought back the ill-feeling surrounding Lee Power and the legal battle over the club's ownership in 2021, which ultimately resulted in the Australian businessman Mr Morfuni taking control.

Swindon Town Football Club has been approached for comment.
