SWINDON Town manager Michael Flynn said his side’s 5-5 draw with Wrexham on Saturday is going to take him “most of the weekend” to recover from.

Town were sublime during periods of the 10-goal thriller and were deservedly 4-1 ahead at half-time thanks to a brace from Jake Young and a goal each for Charlie Austin and Dan Kemp.

But a ridiculous second half saw Swindon concede four times as James Jones and Elliot Lee both netted twice apiece – the latter goal from each arriving in stoppage time.

Although Town’s unbeaten record remains intact after three matches, Flynn admitted his side should have held on for victory – especially after scoring five goals on the road.

He said: “I’m really raw, I’m hurting because that was two points dropped.

“It was dropped by ourselves because we could have scored seven or eight. We’ve given them three or four of their goals, and it’s a tough one to take.”

MATCH REPORT: Town concede twice in stoppage time to draw 5-5 with Wrexham.

As Town looked to hold on to Dan Kemp’s second of the afternoon as their winning goal, referee Charles Breakspear awarded a free-kick on the edge of the box for an alleged handball offence against Tom Brewitt.

Asked for his thoughts on the call, Flynn did not agree but insisted his team could have done plenty to avoid the decision costing them anyway.

He said: “It’s not a free-kick. It’s not a free-kick – it’s hit him [on the shoulder] clearly.

“He’s moving towards it as well, that’s probably what the referee has seen – that he’s moved towards it – but you can move towards it if it hits your shoulder.

“But when you’ve got a full stand behind… I thought Charles [Breakspear] had a good game. I’m not into referee-bashing because our defending should have been better in key moments.

“It was experienced players who have made errors today, but there are still a lot of positives. We should have scored seven or eight, we played some unbelievable football, we opened them up at will.

“This is going to take me most of the weekend to get over.”
