SWINDON Town striker Jake Young feels like he “can’t miss at the minute” after scoring four goals in a 6-0 win over Crawley Town on Saturday - a mindset which could be down to a teammate's dubious culinary skills.

The Bradford City loanee took his goal involvements to 10 in four league appearances for the Robins following a mammoth afternoon where the striker netted a first career hat-trick.

Young’s extraordinary start to life at Swindon is all the more impressive when it is considered he bagged just 16 goals in 91 games before this term.

Asked what he believes the secret behind his red-hot start is, Young was unable to specify one reason before joking his flatmate’s questionable cooking may have had something to do with it.

Young said: “It’s a mixture of stuff. Obviously, getting that confidence from the manager and him telling me what he wants from me.

“Playing with people like Kempy [Dan Kemp] and Charlie [Austin] – we just get each other on the pitch.

“The atmosphere we’ve got here is brilliant, so it’s just a combination of everything.

"I couldn’t tell you exactly what the key is – whether it’s Kempy’s chicken and pasta, I don’t know!”

The 22-year-old went on to share he was placed in a flat with fellow loanee Dan Kemp after agreeing the move down south – a twist of fate which is paying dividends in a big way.

Young continued: “Kempy cooked a really nice dry chicken pasta [on Friday night] and [on Saturday morning], so if that’s what happens then he can keep cooking!

“We’re forging a really good relationship so far. For anyone that doesn't know, we’re living together, so that helps us get to know each other off the pitch. And it just works on the pitch. I feel like I’ve been playing with him for years.

“Hopefully, we can keep setting each other up and contributing to the team. I’m enjoying not just playing with him, but with all of the other lads too.”

REACTION: Flynn believes Robins 'could have scored more' in 6-0 win

Swindon’s loan striker moved to the top of the League Two scoring charts after Saturday’s red-letter day, and he admitted he is keen to continue enjoying this purple patch for as long as possible.

Young said: “Once you get that first one or two goals, it just feels like I can’t miss at the minute.

“I woke up [on Saturday morning] and spoke to Kempy – I said: “I know I’m going to score today” – that’s just how it feels at the moment.

“You go through spells where you can’t hit a barn door – I’m sure I’ll have more moments like that – because you can’t always be at the peaks, but you’ve got to enjoy it when you are scoring four goals and winning 6-0.

“I’ll keep enjoying it and try to make this run go on as long as I possibly can.”
