Michael Flynn said that he is not overly concerned about his squad size after picking up another injury ahead of Swindon Town’s 3-1 defeat against Notts County.

Swindon fielded a six-man bench for the second consecutive match against Notts County after Jake Cain withdrew from contention early in the day with an injury, which he picked up during the 2-0 win over Grimsby Town three days earlier.

Flynn was asked after the match at Meadow Lane whether he had any particular worry about his squad, but he did not feel their experiences were any different than the majority of other teams.

He said: “Jake Cain has got to have a scan. He went over on his foot at the end of his participation on Saturday.

“We thought he was getting better, but today he woke up and came in and tried to test it and he said it was even worse than before.

“I am not sure what the result of that will be, but he couldn’t put any weight on it today, so I am not too confident, but until he has the scan then I have not got a clue.

“We had no problem in changing it [the team] in the second half with Chaz [Charlie Austin] coming off, we knew we would only get a certain amount out of Chaz tonight, that is nothing against him as he is in very good condition fitness-wise.

"But playing Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday-Tuesday, especially with long journeys we have to be careful about that because the one thing that we cannot afford is injuries.

“Jake [Young] was under the weather on the previous Saturday, it [illness] has been going around and I don’t think we will be any different to a lot of clubs where there is the change in the weather and the temperature has dropped.

“I am a little bit under the weather myself, it happens, and we have to get on with it and there are no excuses.”

The injury to Cain comes off the heels of the update provided before the game by Flynn that on-loan Burnley defender Benn Ward would have to have a scan for an injury.

He said: “Benn is going to have a scan today or tomorrow of his abdominal just to rule out a hernia.

“We are just waiting on him with that and we will have a clearer idea of where is on Wednesday or Thursday.”
