A Swindon Town fan invaded the pitch to wind up the Reading supporters during their 5-0 EFL Trophy defeat against their local rivals.

Swindon have not played against Reading since a 0-0 draw in February 2002 and fans were excited to renew the hostilities, even in an EFL Trophy game which Michael Flynn had made clear was not a priority.

Over 1,000 Swindon fans made the 40-mile journey from Wiltshire to Berkshire to watch the game in which a Town side that featured seven players 17 or younger by the end of the match were roundly beaten by a much-changed Reading team.

Both sets of fans were singing songs about each other well before the match started and created a boisterous atmosphere for the EFL Trophy clash.

In the 86th minute of the match, one member of the away following decided to take it a step further and take on the Reading fans on his own.

The fan got out of the away end and ran across the pitch towards the corner where most of the home fans were congregated.

He waved his arms around and made rude gestures at the irate supporters, before eventually surrendering to the stewards and being escorted out of the stadium.
