Swindon Town manager Michael Flynn wants to restore the “feelgood factor” at the County Ground when in-form Stockport County visit on Saturday.

The hosts head into the match on a poor run having not won in their last five games, losing four on the trot.

Included was a humiliating 7-4 FA Cup defeat to National League Aldershot Town and an away League Two loss to Colchester United in midweek.

Flynn gave an honest assessment of the defeats in Friday’s pre-match press conference but noted some signs of improvement following the County Ground thrashing.

“I’m not being funny but I could have played myself and it would have been an improvement in the Aldershot game, it was unacceptable,” he said.

“There was a clear improvement [at Colchester] but it wasn’t hard given that we were 3-0 down within eight minutes.

“We were up 1-0, created chances, looked solid, didn’t switch off in that first half but they’re givens so that should be the bare minimum.

Table-topping Stockport are on a winning streak of 12 matches heading into the game.

“It is always the result [over the performance] as I know we all want to play pretty football and we are still doing that but we are not getting the results at the moment,” said Flynn.

“It’s just about getting those building blocks back again because they’re a young squad.

“Everybody talks about confidence but if you go and beat Stockport who are flying and everyone’s favourites along with Wrexham and Notts County then surely that gives you confidence.

“We want to give the crowd something to cheer about as it’s not been the best for them in these last couple of games so we want that feelgood factor back.”

Tom Clayton remains out through a hamstring injury with the defender not expected to be back for six to eight weeks.

Flynn also confirmed that Jake Cain is struggling with a calf issue before making a frank admission about on-loan Burnley defender Benn Ward.

“Benn Ward will need surgery so it’s likely that we may not see him again in terms of [being] in a Swindon Town shirt but we will have to wait and see,” he said.

The manager stated that Reece Devine is likely to return in January.

Tomorrow's match at the County Ground kicks off at 3pm.
