Swindon Town manager Michael Flynn has said his players lacked desire and commitment in their painful defeat to Stockport County.

The Robins had twice led through Dan Kemp and Jake Young but were pegged back by goals from County’s Will Collar and Kyle Wootton.

League leaders Stockport then showed their class by adding a further two goals via Odin Bailey and Callum Camps.

This was Town’s fifth consecutive defeat leaving the Robins with just one win in their last ten games in all competitions.

“It’s nothing to do with fitness, it’s about desire, commitment and pushing yourself through barriers and doing the horrible part of the game and we don’t do that anywhere near good enough,” said Flynn.

“I am not going single anyone out as we win and lose together but there are certain players who are costing us.

“Desire has got to come from within and it’s got to hurt them more, it’s not a friendly game, this matters and these supporters are paying their hard-earned money to come and the least we can do is put in 100 per cent.”

Flynn spotted several mistakes on the pitch that contributed to Town’s downfall and their unwanted habit of conceding so many goals.

“We’re too easy to score against and our defending is appalling at times,” he said.

“We played some good football on the front foot but letting runners go, letting players turn on the edge of the box and free headers in the box is all just too easy.

“We have just seen a team in Stockport who have done everything professionally so our players should be watching those Stockport players and learning how to play a game of football properly.

“The amount of goals that we have conceded in the last nine games is atrocious.”

Despite admitting how well Stockport played, Flynn disagreed that this result should be expected given County’s recent form and place in the table.

“They’re a League Two club, it’s Stockport, we’re at home and we’re Swindon, it’s not like we are playing against Man City,” he said.

“We have shown at times today we have showed we can be better than them but overall they showed that they are a better team than us because they know how to win a football match.

“I do try and be honest, straight and speak to the fans because that’s what I’m here to do so I don’t want to sugar-coat anything, we have lost today.

“This is very disappointing as we have made some very basic errors which isn’t good enough for this football club.”

The performance left the manager frustrated and he now wants to strengthen the team by making the relevant signings in the next transfer window.

“They need to have a look in the mirror and be honest with themselves and I’ve just told them I can’t wait to get to January because I need players in who can do it,” said Flynn.

“It’s not anything that we’re not working on or identifying, I just don’t think they can do it for the duration of the full game.”
