Swindon Town star Dan Kemp believes the whole team is to blame for their defeat to Stockport County.

The Robins were given the lead by the forward in the first half but after five more goals went in, they found themselves on the wrong end of a 4-2 thriller.

Several defensive mistakes cost Town the points meaning that they now have just one win in ten games in all competitions.

Kemp acknowledged that improvement is necessary but refused to blame the League Two side’s defenders alone.

“This is a collective, it isn’t just the defenders but as a team, we’ve got to work better as a unit and we need more from everyone,” he said.

“It is easy to go to the defenders and [say] it’s their fault but that’s not the case as we defend and attack as a team.

“It’s about breaking down the goals in the debrief and sticking together as a group and this is the time when the togetherness really comes through.”

The 24-year-old was impressed with Stockport and realised out on the pitch just why the visitors are top of the League Two table.

“If you look at Stockport as a collective and as a team, they’re better than us and they’re top of the league for a reason,” said Kemp.

“I think it’s 13 games winning in a row and you don’t do that by not defending and attacking as a team.

“It did feel like a tough game out there and they did things at times which makes you think ‘wow, this is a top side’, the way they stuck in and they had a bit of everything to their game.

“Massive respect to them as a club and as a collective, they’re definitely the best team we’ve played so far this season.”

Kemp was proud of parts of his team’s performance and is hoping this can be channelled for a bounce back in their next game away to Harrogate next weekend.

“I think there are positives to take as it was a much-improved performance and we took the game to them,” he said.

“There was not a lot in the game until the latter stages when they ran away with it but obviously really disappointed not to get the three points.

“We have no choice but to stay positive with another big game this Saturday and with a good week’s training and we’re going to Harrogate wanting and needing those three points.”
