WILTSHIRE senior men failed to follow up their fine start to their 2008 South Western Counties League campaign.

After beating Dorset away by 10 shots they were soundly beaten by Devon at Wootton Bassett.

They lost by 20 shots as they went down 113-133.

Wiltshire were forced into several late changes with four home players from Wootton Bassett plugging some of the gaps including Middleton Cup skip Dave Snell.

The hosts only took the honours on two rinks which were skipped by Snell and Westlecot president, Paul Sloman. His rink recorded a thumping 20-shot success.

RESULTS Rink 1: Dave Eatwell (Westlecot), Gary Mothersill (Highworth), Keith Bailey (Holt) and Paul Sloman (both W'lecot) beat R Bartons 31-13.

Rink 2: Ian Francis (Spencer Moulton), Kevin Carter (H'worth), Alan Small (Wootton Bassett) and Carl Fernandes (Swindon) lost to A Mann 18-30.

Rink 3: Tony Keating, Roger Green (both S Moulton), Les Cox (Swindon) and Jim Roy (Blue Circle) lost to A Hirst 15-32.

Rink 4: Gary Fippen (S Moulton), John Anderson (W'lecot), Richard Galney and Keith Hutches (both Westinghouse) lost to I Hawkins 19-21.

Rink 5: David Johns (Calne), Nigel Walkley (WB), Jim Ford and Ian White (both Blue Circle) lost to L Phillips 11-21.

Rink 6: Bob Laws (Corsham), James Gilchrist (WB), Miles Roberts (W'lecot) and Dave Snell (WB) beat P Wade 19-16.

Score: Wiltshire lost to Devon 113 (4pts) -133 (18pts).

  • THE under 25s gained their first league win of the season with a narrow victory over Devon.

Despite losing on two of the three rinks at Wroughton, Wiltshire juniors still took the honours in the South West Counties under 25 League match as they won overall by three shots.

The triples rink skipped by Michael Snell triumphed by 16 shots which compensated for the one and 12 shot losses suffered by the rinks skipped by Nick Revell and Tom Pittuck respectively.

Today, Wiltshire juniors will be seeking their second SWC League win when they entertain Somerset at Trowbridge Town.
