Swindon Town were just about able to hold on to a four-goal lead in stoppage time as they won 4-3 on the road against Accrington Stanley.

Dan Kemp’s penalty, and then goals from Jake Young, Saidou Khan, and Charlie Austin had Swindon feeling good after 90 minutes, but a goal from Korede Adedoyin and a brace from Brad Hills saw Stanley give them one hell of a scare.

So, how did the players perform as individuals at the Wham Stadium?

GK: Murphy Mahoney – 6

Much like quite a few of his teammates, for 90 minutes, Mahoney was outstanding. A penalty save capped off a display in which he made a number of key saves to give Town a lead that flattered them. Although the goals were not his fault, his head went in stoppage time and whatever went on with that last centre meant he very nearly cost them two points.

RCB: Udoka Godwin-Malife – 4

With the ball, Godwin-Malife was excellent. His great run forward set up the penalty and he did this a number of times. But defensively he had an absolute nightmare. It is a miracle he didn’t cost Swindon goals as he just couldn’t seem to judge a ball correctly all night.

CB: Harrison Minturn – 6

His stock rises significantly based on what happens after he comes off. He did well once again up against a very physical striker in Josh Andrews. The one thing he needs to cut out is getting caught on the ball after dribbling beyond someone. That is something that has happened a lot in the last few games and it has to stop as it undoes a lot of good work he does.

LCB: Frazer Blake-Tracy – 5

For 90 minutes Blake-Tracy was doing well enough to keep Accrington at bay, although Swindon needed someone to take control of the area in the second half and this time, he wasn’t that player. Then alongside Sonny Hart, he needed to show his experience and help him through it, and very clearly that didn’t happen.

RWB: Remeao Hutton – 7

This was almost the perfect Hutton performance. He put in two terrific crosses to set up two goals, his ball to Young was absolutely inch-perfect, and he was also involved in the build-up for Khan’s goal. Then I don’t recall any glaring defensive errors, which is what you are really looking for with him.

CDM: Saidou Khan – 6

What an unbelievable goal from Khan. Clearly, his goal-scoring record is anything but great, but that will be another hundred thousand please Mr Reynolds. Khan was good with the ball throughout the game, but it felt like the Swindon midfield were too attracted to the ball all evening and this opened up more space than should have existed in midfield.

CDM: Liam Kinsella – 5

I recall a handful of good moments from Kinsella covering across and making challenges. But there were a few uncharacteristic mistimed challenges and at times the Accrington players were able to bully him with their size.

LWB: Williams Kokolo – 6

Kokolo once again was sacrificed as an attacking option, but he showed himself to be a very solid defensive player. His pace makes him difficult to get beyond and he stuck to his duties. Given his late arrival, he wasn’t going to be able to get through two 90 minutes in a week, but he did his job when he was on the pitch.

CM: George McEachran – 5

I like what McEachran can add as a pressing option when played further forward, but there was too much space behind him for it to work as well as it should. You still want him to take more command on the ball.

CF: Dan Kemp – 7

Kemp is loving life as a trequartista. He gets on the ball all the time and creates chances for himself and others at will. Not everything was coming off for him like against Mansfield, but he was still at the heart of everything positive.

ST: Jake Young – 7

Clinical finish when the chance arose and he could even have had a delicious second with a volley when Town were 3-0 up. His movement was sublime all night and the Accrington defenders did not know where to look.

Subs:

Tyrese Shade – 5

Shade came on when the game seemed done and it looked to have been enough as Town were cruising towards the victory. He made one or two inroads going forward and defended well enough before everything collapsed. It was not a huge contribution.

Charlie Austin – 6

People were not pleased that people who came on after my 75-minute cut-off and made an impact did not get a rating at the weekend, so here we are. Everything seemed to be perfect for Austin as he came on and scored a nice goal almost straight away. He was then at the periphery of whatever went on afterwards as it mostly came after he had taken a centre.

Jaxon Brown – N/A

Sonny Hart – N/A
