Dan Kemp said that his brace against Forest Green Rovers felt like the perfect County Ground goodbye following an “amazing” loan spell at Swindon Town.

Milton Keynes Dons have wasted no time in recalling Kemp after a loan spell in which he demonstrated himself to be one of the best players in League Two.

16 goals across all competitions combined with eight assists meant that only Andy Cook ended 2023 with more goal contributions in the fourth division and only Mohamed Salah, Erling Haaland, Conor Chaplain, and Ollie Watkins in England’s top four divisions.

Kemp was able to cap off his Town career with a brace in his final County Ground appearance and by scoring with his very last touch for the club in stoppage time against Crawley Town.

The 24-year-old said after the Forest Green game that if that was to be his farewell then it was as good of an ending as he could have hoped for.

He said: “I think it was the perfect ending if that is to be the case, and I am delighted with how it went.

“When you get a win then ultimately it is the best way and to get two goals as well, I am absolutely delighted. It was a really good way for it to end.”

Reflecting on his whole loan spell in Wiltshire, Kemp said that Swindon offered him exactly what he needed to showcase his ability and develop as a player.

He said: “I have loved my time here and if this is the end then it has been amazing, and I have loved every minute.

“I think that it has been a really good loan spell for me and exactly what I needed off the back of my Hartlepool loan last season.

“I feel like I have improved as a player, and I have just been given the platform to show everyone what I can do.

“I am really grateful to everyone here: the manager, the staff, and the people who made it possible for me to come here and hopefully show everyone a glimpse of what I can do.

“I have always wanted to add more goals to my game, I think it is a massive weapon as an attacking midfield player.

“As long as I can keep doing that and providing assists as well, which is my job ultimately, so I am really happy to have done that.”
