WESTSIDE boss David Bott believes his side may have finally turned the corner after they came from behind to register their first win of the season, writes ANTHONY MARSHALL.

Two goals from Gavin Allen lifted Westside off the foot of the Wiltshire League Premier Division as they beat Marlborough Town 2-1, who ironically dropped to the bottom spot following the defeat.

It meant a huge change in fortunes for Westside who had lost each of their opening three games before Saturday, conceding 20 goals in the process.

And Bott insists that with a victory under their belts, they can now look onwards and upwards.

He said: “Because of personal circumstances I wasn’t able to be at the match, so I’ve got to give full credit to my assistant manager Tony Conn. He took the team and delivered the message to them and they delivered.

“From what I can gather it was a very good performance.

“It may not have been the prettiest of games but the lads worked their socks off and got their rewards.

“In the first couple of matches we got some real drubbings, but this shows the character we’ve got and we can build on this and work our way up the table.”

Bott was also full of praise for Westside’s goalscoring hero, adding: “Gavin has now got three goals in two games which hopefully bodes well.

“Apparently he took one of his goals really well, carving out a great opportunity for himself. It’s looking good and we’re hoping to get a couple more signings in this week as well to strengthen the squad further.” Devizes Town and Purton shared eight goals between them, with Purton running out 5-3 winners as Daniel Druett struck a hat-trick and Jake Lloyd scored twice.

Simon Druett, Nathan Moffatt and Daniel Maslen were on target for the hosts Devizes, but it wasn’t enough as they fell to defeat.

New College kept up their 100 per cent record with their fifth win of the season, but they were pushed all the way by Melksham Town as they squeezed home 3-2 winners.

Calne Town are hot on their heels with a game in hand and continued their great start to the season as they eased past Pewsey Vale 5-0, while Bromham fell to a 3-1 home defeat against Westbury United, with Scott Askew grabbing their consolation.

In the final game, Shrewton United came out on top in the battle of the strugglers, winning 3-0 away at FC Chippenham Youth.
