TOWN’S game at Northampton this evening is hanging in the balance after heavy snow swept across the country yesterday - with more forecast for today.

A pitch inspection was taking place at Sixfields at 11am today to determine if the League One clash could go ahead.

The Advertiser understands that, even if the Sixfields playing surface was deemed fit, the game may still be postponed if fans were unable to travel safely to Northampton.

Danny Wilson was hopeful the fixture would go ahead as he looks to extend Town’s unbeaten run to three games.

The manager said: “Northampton have been prepared for this and have had the covers on the pitch. They want the game to go ahead, and that is great from our point of view because it means we can keep a bit of momentum going games-wise.”

A Northampton spokesman said yesterday: “The pitch has been covered since the end of our game on Saturday, and a lot will depend on the next 24 hours.’’ “We had snow on Sunday night and more heavy snow is predicted on Monday afternoon and evening. We will have to see if that forecast is correct and then plan from there on Tuesday morning.

“We will be in contact with Swindon to determine the timings of their journey to try and make sure that a definite decision about whether the game is on or off is made before Swindon and their supporters set off. The worst thing would be for anyone to have a wasted journey, in these conditions.”
