RUUD Gullit could be the latest superstar to grace the County Ground pitch next week for Christian Roberts’ testimonial.

The Dutch hero has been lined up to play for a Chelsea Legends side against a Swindon XI on Wednesday night in aid of ex-Town wide man Roberts, who retired in September because of a persistent knee injury.

Gianfranco Zola, Roberto Di Matteo, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Graeme Le Saux are among a host of stars already taking part in the clash, along with former Town management duo Dennis Wise and Gus Poyet.

Roberts, pictured, admitted that ex-Blues player and manager Gullit is still touch and go for the game, but insisted he will do everything he can to ensure the 46-year-old pulls on his boots once more.

“I would say Ruud is 50-50 at the moment,” admitted Roberts. “He’s got a lot of other commitments with media work but if he decides on the day he wants to be there then he could still play.

“He hasn’t made a decision yet, which to me is a good sign because it means he hasn’t turned it down.

“We are still hopeful and the door will be open for him right up until the first whistle. To have someone like Ruud playing out on the County Ground pitch would just blast it off completely. He’s a world class player and it would be the icing on the cake to have him playing.

“We’re working on it and working on everything that is possible for us. It may be as late as Tuesday night that there could be another announcement to make and more news.”

More than 1,000 tickets have already sold for the big game next week, and Roberts revealed he wants to see the County Ground buzzing for one final time as the stars come out in force.

Roberts said: “I would just love an atmosphere of what I was playing in front of, and obviously the bigger crowd the better.

“What we are trying to put together is a one-off game. They are all coming back together for one final match and it’s amazing for the people of Swindon to be able to be a part of it.”
