TOWN manager Danny Wilson has issued a warning to his soon-to-be out of contract players, insisting: ‘Only your performances will earn you a new deal.’ An astonishing 16 first team squad members, pictured, will see their County Ground deals run out at the end of the season, including Jack Smith, Craig Easton and Patrick Kanyuka.

But Wilson will put reputations to one side and instead judge his players on their game time, insisting the only ones to remain will be people who can take the club to the next level.

“When I first came in I knew there were a lot of contracts up, but it’s up to the players to prove to me that they should be at the club and that they want to be here,” admitted the boss.

“The ball is certainly in their park and that will depend on how their performances rate.

“If they are terrific then we’ll fight tooth and nail to keep them, but if they are not so good then that’s down to the players.

“In the current climate that is affecting every industry at the moment, they are going to have to really prove that they deserve to stay here.

“And if they do that then they can take the club forward.

“That’s what we want to look for - we don’t want to stand still or go backwards. We’ve got to have players who are committed and who we feel can take us forwards.

“And that really lays at the feet of the players - it is up to them to convince everybody that they are part of the future.”
