SEAN Morrison has pledged his immediate future to Town, and urged the club’s chiefs to snap up fellow centre-back Gordon Greer.

The emergence of 18-year-old Morrison has been one of the bright spots in a largely disappointing season, with the defender racking up 23 appearance in his maiden year as a professional.

A series of performances which belied his tender years has unsurprisingly made Morrison the focus of attention from clubs higher up the football ladder, with Swindon turning down requests from Premier League outfits to take the teenager on trial.

But Morrison insists he is committed to the County Ground cause, and when asked if he would still be in Wiltshire at the start of the 2009/10 campaign, the reply was an unequivocal: “Definitely - 100 per cent.

“I just keep myself to myself and don’t pay too much attention to what’s happening outside of the club.

“I try to concentrate on my game and the team, not who’s in the stands or who’s coming to watch or anything like that.

“If I’m playing first team football here next season then it’s great for me. I can just gain experience playing with better players.

“I speak to Ben Tozer (former Town youth player) and he’s had a bit of a horrible season up at Newcastle with injury. But he’s just sitting on the bench and playing reserves.

“For me, the only thing I can do is stay here, learn and get better from it.

“I’ve got quite good experience this season from playing a few games, and I’m just learning every time I play.

“Hopefully I’m growing in stature and growing in my performances, getting better and better.”

Morrison returned to the starting line-up at the beginning of March and struck up an impressive relationship at the heart of the defence with loan signing Gordon Greer.

And with Greer out of contract at parent club Doncaster in the summer, the youngster believes Swindon should make it their priority to get the Scot on a permanent deal.

“Hopefully Gordy will be here next season - I’ve learnt so much off him, as I have also with Hasney (Aljofree) and Jamie (Vincent),” said Morrison, who misses today’s match against Bristol Rovers with a knee injury.

“Gordon is a fantastic player. You can see that he’s miles above League One. I think he’s a Championship player.

“If he’s playing first team football here then I don’t see any reason why he wouldn’t sign.

“He’s been made captain as well and the fans like him, so if he signs it’s only going to benefit the team and me, learning from him.

“He’s playing here and playing regularly - I can’t see why he wouldn’t want to stay.”
