ANDREW Fitton believes Town’s prized assets remain at the County Ground thanks to the club’s recent financial stability.

Swindon’s chairman revealed there was deadline day interest in a number of his players, including winger Anthony McNamee and teenage defender Sean Morrison, from clubs higher up the football ladder.

But Fitton, whose consortium took over Town in January 2008, expressed his delight at being able to rebuff any advances.

“I am pleased that the window has closed,” he told the Advertiser.

“I was fielding calls all afternoon because there were people interested in our players and a few were under real scrutiny.

“Players like Anthony McNamee and Sean Morrison - all the scouts are watching them, and there was maybe some interest in players who haven’t been at the club very long either.

“But we’re trying to build a decent squad here and it was a relief that the window closed with our squad still in tact.

“Knowing that we’ve got players other people want is always flattering but we don’t have to sell, whereas historically perhaps we have had to.”

Meanwhile, Fitton denied reports that Town failed with a number of bids to sign Aldershot front man Marvin Morgan before the close of play on Tuesday.

“I’d like to make it clear that we never made a bid for Marvin Morgan,” he revealed.

“He was a player we liked and we talked to Aldershot about him, but no offer was ever made. ”
