SWINDON Supermarine manager Mark Collier admits he may be forced to dip further into the transfer market if his squad’s injury crisis does not improve.

Marine are missing six first-team players for the Southern League Cup semi-final at VT FC tonight, leaving the Hunts Copse boss short on personnel not only for this evening, but also for the league run-in.

Collier has captured former Swindon Town trio Ashan Holgate, David Bampton and Chris Allen in the last fortnight, and now reckons his transfer policy will be to recruit players from a lower standard of football.

“I was happy with the numbers until I looked at the squad and we have six out of the team,” he said.

“I think what we’ll do from now on is sign players with dual registration so they can continue to play for their clubs.

“In an ideal world (Justyn) McKay and (Ash) Edenborough will come through their injuries and we don’t need to add to the squad, but I’m playing it by ear at the moment.”

McKay is suffering with a calf injury at present while Edenborough is rated 50-50 for tonight’s tie with a back problem.

Fellow strikers Mark Barnes (hamstring) and Luke Hopper (suspension) also miss out, meaning a first appearance for Holgate looks likely.

Ady Williams and Chris Allen will play no part as they have groin and knee injuries respectively.

On tonight’s match, Collier added: “The league is obviously the big fish to fry but we still place quite a lot of importance on this game.

“Saying that, I’m not prepared to risk anyone due to our precarious league position.”

Meanwhile, in the Southern League Premier Division, Chippenham Town will look to continue their play-off push as they make the trip to Clevedon Town.

Elsewhere, Malmesbury host mid-table Binfield in the Hellenic League Premier Division, in what could be a rare home game for Vics following a winter of bad weather.

“As long as we don’t get any more rain I should think we’ll be okay,” said Vics joint manager Martin Woodhouse.

Gareth Davies is a doubt with a dead leg but otherwise Woodhouse and co-boss Kevin Coles have a full squad available.

Fairford Town welcome Shrivenham and Highworth Town travel to Shortwood United in tonight’s other Hellenic League games.

Highworth are without TJ Bohane (suspension), Dan Thompson (ankle) and Dave Stroud (hamstring).

“Hopefully we can continue the good run of form we’ve been in,” said Highworth manager Dave Webb.
