DANNY Wilson is quite happy for his Town side to be labelled “lucky” - as long as they finish the season in League One’s top six.

With just one suspension to deal with this campaign and a largely clean bill of health, Swindon are currently on a run of just one defeat in 18 league games which has propelled them into the promotion mix.

The manager knows that having players sidelined for whatever reason could trouble Town’s push for honours, and is happy to take any help that Lady Luck wishes to dish out.

“Every team will have key players missing at certain points, and it’s how you cope when that happens,” said Wilson.

“I think it’s a bit of luck for us (not to get injuries and suspensions) and, touch wood, that continues.

“You need as much luck as you can get if you are going to be successful.

“People can turn round and say ‘you were lucky, and didn’t deserve that’, but I will take as much luck as I can.

“If at the end of the season we are where we want to be and have been lucky, then great.

“You’ve got to make the best of it while you can and make hay while it’s sunny.”

Wilson is also confident that Town have already experienced their “tricky” spell, as some promotion rivals begin to stutter.

“The first game of the season was tricky - very tricky,” admitted the manager, about their 5-0 hammering by Gillingham in August.

“I think we might have also had a tough spell when we had a lot of draws and should have been winning games.

“That was an uneasy period for me because we should have had far more points than we accumulated, but we’ve got through it well.

“Halfway through the season people were telling me that Leeds had won the league and Norwich weren’t even in the frame.

“But all of a sudden Norwich have come on a terrific run and are on top of the perch, while Leeds are having a bit of a tricky time.

“We’ve just got to keep putting pressure on these teams.”
