DANNY Wilson believes he may have to be patient in his attempts to bolster Swindon’s squad with loanees, but reckons the signs are promising for at least one fresh face at the County Ground.

The manager has made no secret of his desire to recruit cover for Kevin Amankwaah’s right-back spot, and while a move for Celtic youngster Paul Caddis is on hold due to cross-border regulations during the emergency loan window, Town have also been eyeing up now-injured Stockport skipper Johnny Mullins.

Wilson is hoping to add a defensive midfielder to his ranks as well, although he admits any moves could go down to the final day of the end-of-March deadline.

“We are still pursuing those areas that we need to strengthen, which are down the right-hand side and in the midfield,” he said.

“The situation is very similar and still frustrating, but we are still persevering.

“The good thing is though that we are keeping the squad together without too many injuries, but I don’t know how long that will last.

“We know the deadline is coming and will be here very quickly before we know it, so we would like to get players in.

“The clubs these players are coming from are being as cautious as they possibly can, and may wait until the deadline day to let people out, just to give themselves the cover they need and to see the position they find themselves in.

“But we’ve got enough indications that we can get somebody who we want before the window closes, so we are keeping our fingers crossed that will happen.”

And if the worst case scenario materialises, with Wilson unable to bring in new players before this latest window slams shut, the boss will be more than happy to finish the campaign with Town’s current crop.

“Of course I will, without a doubt. How can we not be happy with what we’ve achieved already?” he said.

“If we keep the players fit then we are as good as anybody, but that is in the lap of the gods because you never know what is around the corner.

“We just have to make sure we’ve got that little bit of support if and when we need it, and that is the reason why we are looking.

“As the squad goes, I have been delighted with the quality of the group, so would have no worries about going towards the end of the season with just those players.”
