AS I sit here writing this on a beautiful spring afternoon, it’s hard to imagine that only a week ago I was taking part in a training session in a couple of inches of snow.

Our preparation for the Stockport game was hampered a little by the wintry conditions, just when we thought we had seen the last of the bad weather.

After a snowball fight for a warm-up, all we could do was a bit of piggy in the middle, but the session only got going when the gaffer turned up - and got ambushed.

As he was watching our game of keep ball a whisper went round of “get the gaffer”, and I just want to say here that I didn’t start it.

I think he sensed something was going on but wasn’t quick enough to get away from Alan Sheehan’s rugby tackle and the volley of snowballs that followed.

He took it well, although I think he’s still looking for the ringleaders, but he’ll get no joy here!

It was nice to be back at my old club Leyton Orient on Saturday and be involved in our hard-fought point.

It would have been great to have taken all three and we should have had a penalty late on, but I think we can be happy with the draw.

We travelled to east London on Friday before the game, which also happened to be my 31st birthday.

My wife Laura had made a great selection of cakes for the lads to eat on the journey, as it is tradition to bring in some treats on your birthday.

Sean Morrison has been doing my head in for months for some of Laura’s rocky roads, even going as far as sending her a signed photo with a personal plea, so he was a happy man when I produced a batch of his favourites.

However, the rest of his day didn’t go so well.

Before dinner, I joined Sean, Billy Paynter and Alan Sheehan in the hotel pool for a relaxing swim.

We had the place to ourselves and were mucking around when Billy and Al managed to grab Sean and get his shorts off, which were then thrown out of the pool.

But just as Sean was preparing to make a run for them, a woman came in and started doing lengths! And there was also a couple of people in the gym, which had a glass wall looking into the pool!

Eventually, he timed it so he went while the swimmer was at the other end, but the people in the gym, especially the old woman on the rower, got a bit of an eyeful!

As a nice end to the day, I came down to dinner to find the room decked out with balloons and streamers and all the boys had their party hats on.

Although it wouldn’t have been my ideal way to spend a birthday, it was a decent start to a good weekend.
