IFFY Onuora will strive to bag both his Bolton boys' on new deals at the County Ground although he was sweating anxiously on the scan results for one half of the dynamic duo today.

Ron Atkinson may be heading out of the County Ground after the plug was pulled yesterday on Sky One's documentary, but the manager is eager to ensure the same isn't true of Ricky Shakes and Charlie Comyn-Platt.

Both youngsters were on target in Saturday's 2-1 win over Doncaster Rovers although no sooner had Comyn-Platt bagged what proved to be the winner than he hobbled off with a foot injury.

He was due for a precautionary x-ray today and Onuora has dropped a heavy hint that both he and Shakes will be invited in to his office for a contractual chat.

The manager said: "We want to get to the point where they really do feel part of the furniture and they're probably not far off that now.

"It's no big secret. We want to secure them for a bit longer and keep them hungry. They're made of the right stuff so I don't think that'll be a problem.

"Hopefully now we can push on a bit with that (contracts) and try and keep this group of players together.

"If we can get everyone sorted out well before summer it will make my job easier."

Shakes, still harbouring hopes of a World Cup call up with Trinidad and Tobago, said of a new deal, said: "I'd be delighted and very interested."

Comyn-Platt, by his own admission the untidier member of the flat he shares with Shakes, said: "It was a good day for the Bolton boys.

"We're both loving it here. Crutches aside, it couldn't have been better against Doncaster.

"I'm going for an x-ray to see if anything's fractured. The doctor's told me not to put any weight on it."

Still on the injury front, loan striker Trevor Benjamin missed Saturday's win with a thigh problem and could be out for up to two weeks.

Injuries aside, Onuora is more than happy with Town's continuing progress.

He said: "Our progress has been built on something solid. Even when we were drawing matches it was helping the back lads solidify, that was phase one.

Post Christmas it was building on that platform, being more expansive going forward and getting the right players to do that.

"I think we're set up for the scrap. We're made of the right stuff."
