SIX points safely bagged in the space of five days and successive wins recorded for the first time in a year left Iffy Onuora to reflect on a great week'.

Victory over Doncaster Rovers lifted Town to within a point of escaping the relegation zone.

He said: "Obviously I'm delighted and the fans have gone home more than happy.

"We were hanging on a little bit at the end but overall, we were more than good value for it.

"It's been a great week for us so it's onwards and upwards."

The manager was thrilled to see Ricky Shakes open his Town account and just as pleased to see Charlie Comyn-Platt net what proved to be the winner.

He said: "It was nice to see Shakesy's goal go in and we were on our way. I thought Shakesy got stronger as the game went on."

So what of a World Cup call up for Shakes? Trinidad and Tobago play Iceland in London later this month.

Onuora said: "To be fair you can't stand in the kid's way. He's come on leaps and bounds. If he's selected he'll go with our blessing.

"The move for the second goal was great. The lads were giving Curo some stick in the dressing room saying he didn't mean it, but I can assure you that he did.

"He's seen Charlie's run, there's a nice flick and Charlie's finished it.

"I thought both Charlie and Paul Smith did exceptionally well in central midfield.

"You don't have to teach people like Paul the game. He's played a lot of football and he really took the game by the scruff of the neck.

"He did everything simple, broke a lot of things up and gave us a good platform.

"But I think all round the team we did well.

"Defensively we were sound, we were strong in midfield, created a little bit and the strikers worked hard.

"We had to grind it out in the end and it just shows the character of the team that they were able to do it.

Anyone in the bottom half isn't safe.

"Everyone knows now that we're in there in the shake up with momentum.

"With the squad we've got, there's a bit of experience, energy and youth, We've got, a nice blend. There's strong characters in there, they know what it's about and we're three points closer to the target I have in mind."

Victory stretched Town's home run of games to six without defeat.

He said: "People now will be saying they've a good home record, they're hard to beat and work hard for each other.

"Somewhere along the way that kind of feeling developed that this place, instead of being a fortress like it should be at home, had become something of a millstone around people and they found it hard to perform. It just crept up on us really. By the same token we're losing that tag now.

"We'll travel to Bradford without any fear. Maybe they'll be worried about us?"

Onuora now feels the balance is right in his side, with fresh acquisitions having helped the youngsters.

He said: "When you're thrown straight into a relegation scrap, that asks questions of you.

"The balance was a little too much to one side. It was too much of an ask and it was important we had the right people around them.

"It's important in the heat of battle to have people who've been round the block a few times to talk them through it."
