RHYS Evans believes the decision to shelve Town's television project means the club is now free of a distraction which had the potential to come back and bite it.

The 24-year-old says nothing should be allowed to interfere with the job at hand and while he had no personal issue with Ron Atkinson, and his camera crew, the goalkeeper said there was always the danger of the issue being used as a stick to beat Town with further down the line.

He said: "I can understand why the club chose to do it and I've spoken to friends who think it was a good idea.

"But I just think there's pressure enough with the situation we're in and that's what we as players have to cope with.

"I feel it could be a blessing in disguise. You don't need something that has the potential to divide opinion. What you need is everyone pulling in the same direction. We're making progress, the results are coming and we want that to continue.

"As I've said, I didn't find Ron Atkinson or the cameras hugely intrusive and it wasn't something that was causing me to stay awake at night. I guess it's as much about how things could work out.

"You have to be prepared to face the fact that it could have been something to throw at the club as a negative.

"How much do you stand to lose compared to what you stand to gain?

"I think it would be difficult in any job to have someone looking over your shoulder in this way.

"I guess that's why it hasn't been done too many times before."

However, with Big Ron and company having packed up and now setting their sights on Peterborough United Evans and his colleagues are free to conduct their business in relative peace.

The goalkeeper is happy with the way matters are progressing on the field. He said: "Getting back-to-back wins was another piece of progression and teams facing us now know they've got a battle on their hands.

"We're getting on with our jobs without too much fuss or noise.

"Maybe the fact not too much attention is being drawn to the progress is a good thing for us.

"You're better off being quietly confident. There's a steely determination to get out of this and I think the ingredients are there."

Season-ticket holders will be offered the chance to bring up to four friends for just £5 per person at the match with Rotherham United next Saturday. Further details on 0870 4431554.
