CHRIS Hay struck five minutes into stoppage time to rescue a point for Town at Valley Parade in January 1998.

It ended a depressing run of results for Steve McMahon's men and sparked hope of a revival.

Hay's goal, his first for two months, came towards the end of an incredible seven minutes of added time conjured up by referee Chris Foy.

A curling 12-yard strike flew past Bantams' keeper Gary Walsh to cancel out Edihno's 24th minute opener.

Boss Steve McMahon said: "It felt like we had won the game because we scored so late on and let's hope it's a turning point for us.

"They have been knocked over in recent weeks but we showed commitment, desire and it was our best performance for some time.

"We definitely deserved something out of the game. It was a great finish to what I thought was a really good game.

"I admit I thought our chance had gone but for Chris Hay to pop up at the death was fantastic."

However, Paul Jewell, then Bradford's caretaker boss, was adamant Town should have ended the game with just 10 men.

Digby upended Brazilian Edinho to concede a 65th minute penalty but escaped with just a yellow card rather than heading for an early bath.

Digby picked himself up to make a tremendous save to keep out Nigel Pepper's spot-kick.

Jewell said: "If the ref gives a penalty then surely he has to send off the keeper?

"Their keeper denied us a goalscoring opportunity, gets up and saves the penalty. They then go on and equalise. Where's the justice in that?"

McMahon said: "I was pleased to see the ref not send Fraser off because it wasn't intentional."

Both teams had a case for saying they had enough chances to take all three points.

Bradford's Robbie Blake had the best opening, rounding Digby only to lose his footing at the crucial moment.

At the other end of the field Walsh twice made brave stops to deny Finney and then Hay.

Sadly, the result hardly proved to be the turning point McMahon had hoped for as Town won just three of their remaining 18 matches.
