TOWN boss Danny Wilson hopes Scott Cuthbert will “blossom with the responsibility” of being the team’s new vice-captain.

Following Gordon Greer’s summer departure to League One rivals Brighton, midfielder Jonathan Douglas has taken over the armband.

And, following a couple of weeks of deliberation, Wilson has decided to name youngster Cuthbert as his deputy.

The 22-year-old only signed from Celtic last summer, but had an outstanding season at the heart of Swindon’s defence, and Wilson believes he is the perfect choice.

“Scott has matured into an excellent centre-half,” said the manager.

“He’s had a lot to learn, but as we go along I can see him being a future captain.

“He is a leader by example, a very committed and honest player, and has a lot of respect in the dressing room.

“The position he plays at the back as well, he can see a lot of the play in front of him and it just makes sense.

“A little bit more responsibility will help him. He may be young, but if you put a little bit of trust in players at that age, it can make them come on.

“Hopefully he will blossom with the responsibility.”
