SEAN Morrison insists he has nothing to prove to anyone at Plymouth ahead of tonight’s reunion with his home town club.

The giant centre-back was released from Home Park as a 16-year-old and promptly snapped up by Town where he rapidly progressed through the youth ranks and now has more than 40 professional appearances to his name.

Somewhat surprisingly to those who have seen the youngster’s career blossom over the last couple of years Morrison, now 19, remembers his size being behind the reason for his departure from Argyle, but has no bitterness towards his former employers.

“I played for them for a year when I was 16 and got released by them,” he told the Advertiser.

“There were a few changes that went on there in the youth department and the new guy who came in from Stoke brought in some players with him.

“He then released a load of us straight away.

“I can’t remember the exact reason but I think they said I didn’t use my size well enough.

“But I don’t want to bad-mouth anyone down there. I was devastated, but in hindsight it’s the best thing that has happened to me.

“A couple of my friends still play for them and I’m looking forward to it - it should be a good game.

“But it is no different to any other league game against any other team.

“It’s another good side who have just come down from the Championship and no special occasion for me.”

One of those friends still in Devon is Republic of Ireland Under 21 international striker Joe Mason, who is expected to be among Plymouth’s substitutes tonight.

And Morrison is hoping he gets a chance to go up against the front man and put their friendly words of rivalry into practice.

“Joe is one of my close friends and a good player,” explained the defender.

“Hopefully he gets a game and I get to play against him, as I haven’t played against him properly since I was down there.

“He’s a good friend and I always see him when I’m out back at home.

“Last time I saw him out he told me he was going to have me in his pocket and I said I was going to batter him all over the pitch.

“It’s just friendly banter.

“He’s a fantastic player and has got everything you need to be a great striker - he deserves a few more games than he’s had, but I’m sure he will do really well.“
