THERE are two important dates currently engrained in Danny Wilson’s mind, and he needs no reminding of either.

Naturally, the first is wife Karen’s birthday – a crime to forget – but the second is September 25, 2010.

That represents the last time his Swindon Town side kept a clean sheet in League One, in an impressive home victory over Huddersfield.

Shut-outs have been hard to come by for Town this campaign and the fact that their last one was a full 11 weeks ago speaks volumes of the defensive frailties which have riddled the side.

Swindon travel to Oldham tomorrow, and Wilson is desperate to wipe away that unwanted statistic.

“That date is in my mind like my wife’s birthday,” he said.

“I’ll never forget when our last clean sheet in the league was, don’t worry about that.

“I know exactly when it was, and it’s far too long. As a group of players we have to address that because at the moment in time we are far too open when we are defending.

“There’s no better game than the next one to start that run.

“Oldham away from home against the odds are great places to go and get a clean sheet, and that’s what we’ll be looking to do.”

The Latics are unbeaten at Boundary Park in the league so far this term – one of only two League One sides to boast that record.

But Town are within five points of Oldham, despite their inconsistent form, and Wilson believes they can close the gap further.

“They’ve done fantastic down there, but it’s a long old season,” he said.

“We can only start beating the teams who are in and around us, and I would like to think that within the next two or three weeks we could be around Oldham in the top areas.

“They are going very well at the moment, their confidence is very high, and at home they have proved very tough.

“We are under no illusions as to how tough it is, but with the personnel we’ve got we are more than capable.

“When you look at all those teams up there everyone’s saying what a great season they are having, but points-wise we’re not far away from them.

“And if we get into that area it will give us a big boost, that’s for sure, because we haven’t played consistently well.

“The teams above seem to be more consistent, but we’re still in touch and that bodes well for us.”

Top scorer Charlie Austin is likely to recover from the groin strain which forced him off in midweek against Crawley, while goalkeeper Phil Smith (dead leg) and full-back Kevin Amankwaah (bruised toe) could also be passed fit.

However Paul Caddis will miss out again as he is still suffering with flu.
