SHRIVENHAM boss John Fisher fears Luke Alford could be out for the rest of the season after the goalkeeper picked up a potentially serious knee injury.

The stopper was forced off after 15 minutes in the 5-0 defeat to Oxford City Nomads on Wednesday and Fisher is worried it could be the end of his number one’s campaign.

“It looks like he could be out for quite a long time, my gut reaction is he could be out for the rest of the season,” admitted the manager.

“I think he might have done his medial ligaments and if he’s done that it’s a bad injury.

“It depends on what the injury is but I don’t think we’ll see him back in goal before at least the end of February.

“That’s just the way it’s going at the moment. He was cup-tied for Saturday anyway but it still leaves me trying to get a goalkeeper.

“We’ll have to sort something out and maybe get someone in on loan in the next week or so.”

Shrivenham welcome Headington Amateurs tomorrow in the second round of the Supplementary Cup, a competition Fisher has been fiercely critical of in the past.

But the Rec chief concedes with his team struggling in the league, a decent result could help them back on the road to form.

He said: “All the players don’t want to be in it. If you ask them if they think the cup should be run, they say ‘no’.

“They all know how I feel about it as well but when we go into the changing room we want to win it, so the team talk is no different to any other game.

“WIth the way our season’s going, it gives us the chance to get something going.”

Headington play a division below Shrivenham in Division One West but Fisher is wary of a shock given the teams’ contrasting seasons.

“They are at the top of their league and will be a hard team to play against,” he said.

“As they are from Oxford they are going to be quite physical but we’ve just got to get on with it.”

Elsewhere in the Hellenic Premier, Wootton Bassett Town face a tough assignment as they make the trip to table-toppers Ardley United.

Rock-bottom Fairford Town are also on the road, with Bracknell Town their opponents.
