DANNY Wilson was left with mixed feelings after Town’s second 0-0 draw in a week at the County Ground this afternoon.

The Swindon boss rued a series of close calls and missed chances as the Robins dominated proceedings in the League One clash but failed to beat a resilient Ben Hamer in the Exeter City goal.

And the Town manager agreed the turnaround in his side’s traits, from free-scoring and fragile to miserly and impotent, will need to be balanced as Swindon look ahead to a busy February.

“We seem to be closing it down at one end and lost it at the other end at this moment in time,” said Wilson.

“I thought we deserved to win the game today, and I don’t think I’m being too unkind to Exeter.

“We had enough chances again today. The goalkeeper’s had one of those games again, which we seem to be up against week in week out at the moment but thankfully we’ve come away with something again.

“We looked very, very strong at the back. I think Phil (Smith, Town’s goalkeeper) hasn’t had one shot to deal with all game.

“In those terms it’s a big bonus for us, but we’re lacking at the other end.”

Wilson suggested he may be very close to sealing at least one new signing before the transfer window slams shut at 11pm on Monday.

With three-goal Thomas Dossevi and injured Vincent Pericard the only two remaining senior strikers at the club, Matt Ritchie was left to play up top against the Grecians.

And whilst the former Portsmouth man excelled during a lively and dangerous shift alongside Dossevi, it was blatantly apparent that Town need a target man and a natural goalscorer to help them in their quest for League One survival.

Swindon have lodged several bids for unnamed players in recent weeks, and whilst some have been rebuffed Wilson is hopeful of tying up a deal in time for the trip to Bournemouth on Tuesday.

“We’ve located what we want. We’ve had lots of targets and been let down lots of times,” he said.

“At the moment in time we’re in a good position to hopefully get a yes from a player.

“ It could change after the weekend, I don’t know.”
