BOSS Mark Collier was so disappointed in Swindon Supermarine’s display against Chesham United that he apologised to his team’s travelling support.

Marine were hammered 4-0 at the Meadow with Robert Bartley and Danny Talbot giving the hosts the half-time lead, before James Potton and Paul Robinson completed the victory in the second period.

It was the South Marston club’s fifth Southern League Premier Division defeat in seven games and was a baptism of fire for goalkeeper James Rae, who made his first league start in the absence of injury victim Will Puddy.

“The Supermarine supporters travelled up the M4 and paid their £9 to watch us play, and the performance wasn’t acceptable,” said Collier, pictured, adding that Rae was not at fault for any of the four goals.

“We were lucky to be 2-0 down at half time. In the second half there was a slight improvement and we looked a semi-threat, but then they scored a breakaway goal and the rest of the game was a non-event really.

“Matt Robinson came out with some credit for his desire and commitment but everyone else fell well below par. The basics we didn’t do very well and people didn’t do their jobs individually or collectively.

“We were never at the races from when the referee blew the whistle, so we got absolutely what we deserved and if we continue in that vein then we’ll slide down the league.

“It was the poorest performance we’ve produced all season. Hopefully it’s a one-off but only time will tell.”

Elsewhere, Chippenham Town won a Hardenhuish Park blockbuster against Brackley Town 3-2.

Bluebirds striker Alan Griffin headed home from close range in the 17th minute and the lead was doubled late in the first half when Josh Green directed past his own goalkeeper.

Elliot Sandy poked into the top corner in the early stages of the second half and the visitors then levelled the game when Owen Story fired into the roof of the net.

Soon after Sam Allison danced round goalkeeper Darren Acton and tapped into the net to seal three points for the home side.

Meanwhile, a Matt Sysum effort was not enough to prevent a 2-1 defeat for Cirencester Town at Stourbridge.
