SUPERMARINE joint caretaker boss Matt Robinson has revealed it may not be the “right time” for him to get into management.

Current players Robinson and Gary Horgan took charge for Saturday’s 4-2 victory over Bashley following the resignation of Mark Collier, and Horgan has already ruled himself out of the running for the job on a permanent basis.

Around half a dozen potential managers have so far made tentative enquiries about taking over at the Webb’s Wood Stadium, and in the absence of a Southern League fixture on Saturday, talks will be held between the fans’ consortium that runs the club and players over the best course of action.

Robinson, a full-time police officer stationed in Andover, is unsure if he wants to throw his hat in the ring either as sole boss or as part of a management team, as Marine bid to maintain their push for the Southern Premier play-offs.

“I’ve made no secret that I want to get into management and coaching at some stage, whether it’s the right time I don’t know,” said the former Portsmouth man.

“We (Robinson and Horgan) are not planning too far ahead. We’re quite happy to be asked to do it on a temporary basis but we’re not sure what the future holds.

“There’s a few issues that need to be ironed out, but at the moment we’re just taking it game by game.”

Robinson, 36, will not joint-manage with Horgan at Tiverton Town tonight as he is working, but he revealed Saturday’s win proved a baptism of fire as both were in the thick of the action alongside managing the side.

“It was quite strange trying to manage and play and do everything all in one,” admitted the defender.

“When we tried to make a substitution it was hard getting the point to the bench, but the main thing was we put in a good performance and won.

“We’re still in a really healthy position in the league and Bashley was a great three points to take.”

Meanwhile, consortium member Steve Nichols says the group were delighted with Saturday’s result, which was recorded in the presence of a handful of former non-league managers.

And Nichols did not rule out the temporary management pair staying on until the end of the season.

“It’s not out of the question,” he said.

“They are both working full-time jobs so it’s whether they can take it on as much as we want them to take it on.

“The players are happy with Gary and Matt doing it, and we’re happy with them doing it. We’ve just got to wait and see.

“Saturday’s result was a breath of fresh air, we had our backs against the wall but came out smiling.”
