WOOTTON Bassett Town boss Dave Turner was hoping to have a new goalkeeper on board today ahead of this evening’s visit to Thame United in the Hellenic League Premier Division.

Regular stopper Stewart Thompson limped off with a torn thigh muscle in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Witney and could be sidelined for up to six weeks.

And Turner was last night close to bringing in a custodian who has played at Southern League level, but the paperwork had not been completed.

“I’ve spoken to someone and he’s going to let me know if he’s available,” said the Rylands Way manager.

“If we get him he will be good cover and will do a job for us. He hasn’t played recently because he’s had work commitments.

“I’m looking to get someone in for the next six weeks because Stewart’s definitely torn his thigh muscle and he’s been told four to six weeks.”

Luke Sharps, one of Turner’s coaching team, will step in should a stopper not sign in time.

Bassett have cover for Saturday’s trip to Binfield in the form of Adam Miles, who is back from university.

The trip to Ardley a week today is also catered for but Turner would not reveal who the mystery man was as he has not signed yet.

Tonight will be the first opportunity Bassett have had to visit Thame’s ASM Stadium, which opened in January.

“It’s the first time tomorrow and I’ve only heard good things,” said Turner.

“It’s a new stadium and a new pitch so it should be a good place to go and play football.”

Elsewhere in the Hellenic Premier, Dave Webb’s Highworth Town side travel to fourth-placed Shortwood United.
