CALVIN Andrew believes Swindon fans will now see what he is truly capable of after scoring his first goal in over a year on Saturday.

The 24-year-old striker, whose previous league goal came on April 5 last year, has never been prolific in his career but his failure to find the net this season had been playing particularly heavily on his mind.

But, in his sixth game in a Town shirt, Andrew finally broke his duck in style at Griffin Park with a fine left-foot strike from 20 yards, and immediately it was clear the goal had filled him with confidence as he grazed the crossbar soon after with a sublime long-range effort.

The goal had even greater importance given that it sealed Town’s first win since January 3 and means they still have a fighting chance of avoiding the drop to League Two. And Andrew believes he can weigh in with more during the end of season run in after having the burden of his goalless run removed.

He told the Advertiser: “I haven’t played much football this season and this run at Swindon is the most I have played, so the goal was very important for me.

“It was such a relief to finally get the first one out of the way.

“As a striker it builds on you and you start to feel the pressure and I put a lot of pressure on myself to go out there and do a good job.

“However, it is all well and good putting in good performances but as a striker you are judged on goals, so hopefully now there will be more to come.

“I’m sure everyone who watches football knows that once one goes in, the player raises his game and becomes confident in their own football.

“So I am excited for next game, as I have been since I have been here, and I am excited for the next win.”

Even so, Andrew would gladly go without hitting the back of the net again between now and the end of the season if instead Town manage to retain their League One status, with other players getting the goals needed.

“I am more concerned with getting wins for the team,” he added. “If I did not score and we got the win that would not be a problem for me, as that is the main thing.

“But I know that with myself scoring goals it helps the team as well, and all the matters now is getting the win.”
