SOUTHBROOK stayed in the hunt for a top-five finish in the Wiltshire League Premier Division with a 4-1 away win over AFC Amesbury.

Chris Doyle opened the scoring for the visitors after just seven minutes before Wes Pidgeon added a second shortly before the break.

The game was over as a contest two minutes after the restart, as Craig Kent added a third before Sam Bailey got the fourth for his side midway through the half. The home side never gave up, though, and scored a consolation in the last couple of minutes.

“It was a terrific performance and a well deserved victory, we played some really good football at times despite the heat,” said Southbrook boss Den Carter.

Moredon Cheney also turned in a first class performance to beat visitors Bradford Town 3-1.

A brace from Jamie Ashby gave the hosts the advantage at the break and a strike from Luke Coxhead made sure of victory 10 minutes into the second half.

The visitors fought back to reduce the lead but never looked like adding to their score against a stubborn home defence.

Moredon boss Lee Ashby said: “We played really well against a good side and deserved our victory, I was really pleased with the performance.”

New College lost 1-0 at Chalke Valley, with the winner coming courtesy of a 30-yard strike from Damian Creese.

Purton Redhouse were defeated 6-0 by title contenders FC Chippenham Youth, and to add to a miserable afternoon for the visitors they had their keeper sent off in the closing stages following a second yellow card.

Elsewhere, Blyskawica did well to hold league leaders Corsham Town Reserves to a 2-2 draw.

The visitors saw an early lead cancelled out by a strike from player-manager Phil Trueman, but they netted again to go in 2-1 up at the break.

However, Sam Jenkins levelled the scores in the closing stages.

Wroughton paid the price for a poor second half performance as they were downed 7-2 by Calne Town.

Steve Healey scored a hattrick for the visitors, with further goals coming from Mark Sharratt, Jamie Lloyd-Davies and Josh and Ricky Summers.

MarlboroughTown were beaten 3-1 away to Vale of Pewsey and Devizes Town Reserves gained a 6-2 victory over visitors Shrewton.

In Division One, Byron Wanderers saw off Lower Stratton 4-2, Pembroke defeated Swindon Nalgo by the same scoreline and Ashton Keynes edged a close battle with Intel 2-1.
