SIMON Ferry wants Swindon Town to pull out all the stops to ensure fellow midfielder Jonathan Douglas remains at the County Ground.

The duo struck up a fine partnership during Town’s play-off campaign last season but failed to carry that into the current campaign, with Ferry having found himself largely out of favour.

The Scot has been involved in the last two games, however, and against Oldham on Saturday lined up once again alongside Douglas before putting in a man-of-the-match performance, although he couldn’t prevent Town slipping to a 2-0 defeat.

At their best, a midfield pairing of Ferry and Douglas would comfortably be one of the best in League Two.

Douglas’ current contract with the club is due to expire at the end of the month and the former Leeds man will be free to leave if Town do not take up the option written into his contract of keeping him for another year.

And Ferry called on the Town board to do all they can to ensure Douglas remains a Swindon player for next season.

“He (Douglas) is a great player and makes things easier for me as he tells me where to go and what to do and I do it,” the former Celtic trainee told the Advertiser. “He has played at international level and there is no better guy to play with really.

“I think he is too good for this division (League One) and if he dropped into League Two it would be a great lift for all the boys if the club can keep Dougie, but we will see what happens.”

Douglas has publically stated that he is happy at Town and settled in the area, giving a strong indication that he himself is prepared to stay at the club.

Ferry added: “He has his wife and kid here and they enjoy living around here and he gets on well with all the lads.

“We all like him so we are hoping he sticks around.”
